While most people know sharks from the gore-filled images from the ‘Jaws’ films which have traumatised generations of ocean users since 1978, few people know that over 450 different species of sharks exist worldwide. Sharks have been roaming the world’s oceans for over 400 millions years; less than ten species are potentially dangerous for human. Michael will introduce us briefly to the real world of the sharks and talk about the ten years he spent conducting various research projects on white sharks in South Africa, and discuss the conservation efforts underway to save sharks from disappearing due to the avarice and selfishness of human.
This presentation will also include an introduction to our latest trip ‘Sharks of the Cape of Storms’ in South Africa created in collaboration with Michael Scholl, two weeks in the Cape Province to study and discover some of the shark species found in these waters, and mainly meet the great white sharks.
